AS2's on() command is probably all thats needed for those applications, I'm sure. AS3 won't make any difference to some fat 13 year old kid creating naked anime dress-up girl games for his friends to fap off to, or making fake nude Sarah Michelle Gellar quizzes cos most real girls vomit up their kidneys upon seeing him.
Its also my first flash game, so supposing I had have attempted it in AS2 I would have been put off Flash game programming forever, thanks to technical limitations - either that or just stuck to programming simple shooters and platformers!Īt the end of the day, its down to who you are and what you use it for. Its complex and requires a lot of optimizing, and theres no way I could have done it without AS3 (unless I was running it on a Cray supercomputer!).
The proof being, the game I'm working on right now. But I realised that if I wanted to create the things I truly want, the way I want, then I would have to learn AS3.
#Flash actionscript 3.0 if when code
I started off learning AS2 and didn't like the idea of using AS3 for the very same reasons you stated (plus the code looked scary to me!). Yes it takes more code to do something in AS3, but at the end of the day its a hell of a lot more powerful and flexible than AS2, and the code is a hell of a lot easier to find if you are looking at someone else's project. You've been given freedom of choice to use whichever language you want. 2.1 is much better and i will continue using it and treat 3.0 like the little piece of crap it is.Sounds like someone needs to take a chill pill and relax! I will not use Action script 3.0 as far as i am concerned it sucks and i hope the people who came up with it die.
